Brian Baker

Dr. Brian Baker is the Acting President of the North American Regional Group of IFOAM—Organics International (IFOAM NA). He was a member of IFOAM’s Principles of Organic Agriculture Task Force and has been a volunteer with IFOAM—Organics International since 1999. Dr. Baker is a researcher, consultant and educator who has worked in organic agriculture since 1983 in various capacities. As a founder of the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI), he filled many roles, culminating in his position as Research Director. He was the International Research Networker for the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) in Frick, Switzerland. Dr. Baker continues to publish peer-reviewed articles in academic journals. His Ph.D. is in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University, which was followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Baker has also taught classes on organic farming, urban farming, and sustainable agriculture at the University of California, Santa Cruz, the University of Oregon, and Alfred State College, where he was Executive Director of the Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture. He has served a range of consulting clients in the private, public, and non-profit sector in and out of the United States. Brian grew up on a small family farm in Western New York, which was certified organic based on his initiatives. He currently resides in Eugene, OR.
